You’re Not Going To Be For Everyone

Having a blog for 10+ years is a beautiful thing, with so many collections of your own thoughts. However, there have been times I’ve read something I wrote years ago and just cringed. I couldn’t help thinking, “I can’t believe someone has read that.” Over the years, I’ve read so many people’s work. As a creative working in a creative space, and as someone with a lot of curiosity about the world, I read, I love watching people on YouTube, and I love getting ideas from Pinterest. The internet is this amazing place where you can find so much to connect with. I have come across certain blogs and content on the internet that you just instantly connect with!

I remember reading this blog years ago—I still, to this day, wish I remembered the name—where two girls who had moved to the city gave advice to others on the challenges they were facing in life. The blog was humorous; it was light-hearted but also so powerful. Sometimes you connect because you find your people, your community or culture, through something someone else has created.

I’m sure other people who came across that blog may not have felt its power the way I did. I’m sure making humour out of serious situations isn’t for everyone. They may have found the blog to be “not for them,” so to speak.

It made me realise that it’s okay not to be for everyone. It’s actually a good thing not to be for everyone because, for the people who do connect with your content, business, or even yourself, they will love it more.

People are always going to have preferences, and it’s okay not to be theirs because you will be someone else’s first choice.

I love this because it applies to both your professional and personal life.

At this point in time, I have come to terms with the fact that who I am, how I present myself, my goals, and my ideas are not going to be for everyone… and that is more than okay because the people I am for will appreciate it more!
