Something most of us will go through at some point in our lives is losing friendships we thought would last a lifetime. As someone who has gone through this multiple times at different stages of my life, I wanted to share my thoughts in the hope that someone else might need to hear this.
People Change…
…for better or for worse. Sometimes you are no longer aligned in your path and it would cause more stress maintaining a friendship where you don’t have the same values anymore or you have outgrown. It is sad because changing is normal but sometimes when people change, the relationship also has to change and I think that can be really hard to accept
Protecting Your Peace
It doesn’t always have to make sense other than it is affecting your mental peace. Sometimes it is hard to put a finger on exactly what it is but you can feel the energy shift and if it is affecting you in a negative way, sometimes there isn’t anything more to unpack there other than this connection no longer serves you in a positive way.
Standing Up For Yourself
Some friendships end from a situation where you have had to stand up for you and place boudaries that would make you feel confortable or someone is now hurting you in some way and are unable to accept it. Asking for respect and being considered is the bare minimum and if this is not being met in any relationship, that is a good enough reason to walk away from anyone.
Acceptance
When a friendship ends it doesn’t feel great, especially if you were super close to the person. It is a slow process coming to terms with this and moving on but if the friendship ended from your needs not being met or you being hurt, it is okay that sometimes you feel sad about it. It might take a while to come to terms with it but slowly as you start to recover from the loss, it will make more sense to you and you can get to a point of total acceptance after some time. It is important not to try and rush the healing process.
I hope this post helps someone or has made someone feel a little better and understand the situation a little more. Losing friends is something that I believe you have to go through in life. If they don’t fit into your life anymore, it’s okay to let it go so there is space for people who are more aligned with you to enter.
