As someone who has a lot of experience in this area, I am very excited to share how I have been turning the setbacks in my life into wins. The past few years have been hard, to say the least from being let go from jobs to walking out of jobs to moving to a new city by myself where I didn’t know anyone and some super fun health issues I just didn’t see coming. On top of that, I feel the need to be super successful so setbacks are not really part of the plan at all. Here are some ways I have turned a Setback into a show-stopping comeback.
- Life, sometimes, just ‘happens’ to you and it can feel so out of control. Step one to turning you’re life around is accepting that some things are and will always be out of your control. You’re health, no matter how much you look after yourself, can always surprise you. Things, like jobs and relationships which involve other people will always be out of your control in ways because you can’t control another person. Acceptance will take you halfway there.
2. Focus on what you can control. Write down what you can change to get you where you need to go. If you are struggling with your health, find out how you can help ease your issues or how you want to work on changing your mindset to help cope with the issue. If you are going through something that feels like a ‘failure’, figure out what you need to do to get yourself back on track so you have a sense of direction.
3. Reframe your mind. If you can change your mind, you can change your whole life. Going back to my previous point, is a ‘failure’ really a ‘failure’? Sometimes, we can be so hard on ourselves. Things that didn’t work out can be seen as lessons. We can learn from them to know not what to do again but also if this is something we should avoid in the future. There are also times in your life where things don’t work out and it can even be a blessing in disguise.
4. What to do next? There is a time for sitting and crying but then it’s time to take action. Moving on is a big part of having a comeback, I mean how else are you supposed to turn a situation around? This is the hardest step because you might have a lot of fear or still feel some grief around the situation. Moving slightly forward can sometimes be the spark that pulls you out of that place.
5. Accept small wins. Multiple small wins can lead to big wins and big wins overall will be the comeback you had hoped for, physically, mentally and emotionally. Small wins are meant to be celebrated too and lead to more small wins. Each time you win small, acknowledge them and learn from them too so you can win some more. Before you know it, you will be winning so much that you forget you even had a setback in the first place.
Hope this helped anyone who needed a bit of motivation and knows we all go through setbacks in life. I hope this post has helped you deal with them better, and come back like never before.
